St
Silas Church 'Big
Green Roof Project'
As an
approved
Nu-Lok
solar panel installer we were proud to
be appointed main contractor for St. Silas Church total roof
overhaul
in
Welsh
natural slate, incorporating solar PV panels to its South facing
elevation. The
first Grade II listed church to receive such and extensive size of
panels. The panels used were
specially designed to
match the colour of the slate following discussions with the architect
and
planning authority. The
system comprises
of 362 panels which will potentially generate 14.84kWp.
The annual kW hours are estimated at
12,337 per annum. To
put this into perspective the solar system
would generate enough electricity to run 3 stand alone homes of average
consumption.
The project also
required the overhaul of stone masonary, complete renewal of a vast
amount of lead and care for all timbers.
During
the works the original lathe and plaster ceiling was
uncovered which rather than remove or disturb we carefully
protected and installed our new roof system over the old untouched
ceiling.
